Nhaka Gallery will hold its first exhibition of the year this Friday, right in time for Women’s History Month.

The exhibition, titled Seasons: Diverse Women, Diverse Struggles; Women All the Same, will be opening on March 7; and run through to April 8. This landmark exhibition, presented by Nhaka Gallery in collaboration with The British Council, Incubator, Katswe Sistahood, and Voice of the Voiceless (VoVo), will celebrate the unique yet universal strength, resilience, and solidarity of women from all walks of life, coinciding with the global observance of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month.

Seasons provides a powerful platform for exploring the complexities of women’s lives, highlighting both the diverse struggles and shared resilience women experience across different cultures and circumstances.

Through the lens of art, the exhibition emphasizes the commonality of women’s journeys while acknowledging the distinct challenges they face. The exhibition calls for reflection on the role of women in shaping social change and empowering one another as they navigate their diverse paths.

Hellen Matsvisi, Executive Director and Women’s Rights Specialist, who curated the exhibition, emphasized that Seasons is a testament to the resilience and unity of women, despite the diverse challenges they face.

She highlighted that the exhibition creates a crucial space for dialogue, reflection, and empowerment, amplifying women’s voices through art. Matsvisi further stated that by showcasing these shared narratives, Seasons reinforces the ongoing fight for gender equality and social justice.

The exhibition will feature an array of artistic works from both Zimbabwean and international artists, each telling the stories of women’s struggles, triumphs, and enduring creativity. Artists exhibiting include:

  • Yananiso Kunaka
  • Kimberly Gakanje
  • Nyasha Paula Mutamba
  • Lilian Magodi
  • Roseline Marikasi
  • Primrose Chingandu
  • Johnson Mugabe
  • Freddy Tauro
  • Brave Gavaza
  • Anusa Salanje
  • Gorge Chibwanya

The Seasons exhibition serves as both a celebration and a call to action, encouraging reflection and dialogue on the shared struggles and collective strength of women worldwide. The exhibition will showcase an eclectic mix of art forms — from photography and mixed media to live performances.

A series of performances by guest artist Vera, a renowned Zimbabwean jazz musician, will add an auditory layer to the exhibition’s exploration of women’s diverse struggles and shared resilience.
